TeraView Launches the CW Spectra 400 at Photonics West 2010 – A new Continuous Wave Terahertz Platform

TeraView, (www.teraview.com) the pioneer and leader in terahertz solutions and technology announces the launch of the new CW Spectra 400, a continuous wave terahertz system with fibre fed external devices.

Designed to complement the existing and highly successful  TPS Spectra 3000 pulsed terahertz spectrometer, the continuous wave CW Spectra 400 brings new terahertz capabilities at an affordable price.

Based on over a decade of CW Terahertz technology development at TeraView, the system offers a compact, fully tuneable terahertz source and detector capable of operating in the 50 to 1500 GHz range with a high spectral resolution. In common with the TPS Spectra 3000, the CW Spectra 400 unit is safe, robust, flexible and easy to use, with ambient temperature, turn-key generation and detection of teraherzt light.

The unit also offers a flexible affordable option for researchers looking to move into the terahertz region. Applications include solid state physics research, Terahertz propagation in various structures including meta-materials, high frequency dielectric measurements, gas and solid phase spectroscopy, medical tissue characterisation and non-destructive testing.

The unit can be purchased with a range of accessories (e.g. scanning gantry) and comes with TeraView’s 12 month warranty and on-site support.

“Our work on applications of terahertz technology has shown it to be a solution to many problems in different sectors.” Said Professor Sir Michael Pepper, the company`s CSO “In the current economic climate the introduction of our new lower cost system should be of considerable interest to many of our customers and partners in industry and academia.”

Note for editors

This lower cost tuneable terahertz system will help to encourage further use and development of terahertz technology, and complements the extensive capabilities available with TeraView’s TPS spectra 3000 spectrometer. TeraView has already secured the first customer order for a CW system from Iowa State University.

About TeraView (www.teraview.com)

TeraView is the world’s first company devoted to the application of Terahertz light for spectroscopy and imaging. Backed by over 55 patents, TeraView’s applications expertise includes pharmaceuticals, medical imaging, homeland security & defense, electronics and non-destructive testing. The technology is capable of offering new solutions and safer (non-ionising) alternatives to existing techniques.

Headquartered in Cambridge, UK, TeraView was spun-out of the Toshiba Cambridge Research Laboratory in April 2001. Sales and support are available throughout Europe, North America and the Far East either directly or through a network of distributors.
