TeraView expands its intellectual property portfolio in Korea and Taiwan protecting semiconductor chip test & inspection

Apr 16, 2025

TeraView, the pioneer and leader in terahertz technology and solutions is pleased to announce that the Company has been awarded two new patents in Korea and Taiwan, further enhancing the protection of TeraView’s unique intellectual property (IP) employed to test and inspect advanced 2.5D/3D semiconductor packaging. Advanced semiconductor packaging is used extensively in chips for AI, machine learning, automotive and other high growth applications.

Globally, major companies involved in AI have been referencing the importance of TeraView’s EOTPR product in failure analysis and other test & measurement applications in the advanced semiconductor packaging industry. Recent and past publications by NVIDIA, AMD and other companies have cited the utility of EOTPR in 2.5D/3D packaging. These companies and their suppliers operate throughout Asia, including in Taiwan and Korea.

Protection of IP used in TeraView’s EOTPR product in these countries is therefore key. A recently granted patent in Korea protects the unique probe technology developed by TeraView to couple terahertz light into and out of semiconductor chips, providing customers with accurate information on quality and failure mechanisms to streamline production and maximise yield. The Taiwanese patent similarly protects basic concepts of automated probing of contacts on chips for higher volume test and inspection.

Dr Don Arnone, TeraView’s CEO, commented “The semiconductor test and inspection markets in Korea and Taiwan have been key to TeraView since the foundation of its EOTPR business, with many of our customers and their suppliers based in in these countries. New IP granted in Korea and Taiwan further protects future sales of our EOTPR product and builds upon the unrivalled IP portfolio held by TeraView in both quantity and quality of patents. Alongside providing the benefits of this IP to our customers, TeraView’s current focus is to build up the Company’s commercial and technical base in Korea to further support our customers in these countries”.
